MAC “Lovelorn” Lipstick

MAC Eyeshadows in “Jest”, “Girlie”, “Bronze”

PREP:

Apply concealer on top of they eye, all around the eye and underneath the eye.  Set with powder.  Apply your eyeshadow primer.  I use a MAC Paint Pot in “Soft Ochre”

Step 1:

Using a stiff fluffy, apply “Jest” to the front half of the eye.  It should look something like this–very basic so I am only showing the downward angle:

Step 2:

Apply girlie to the outer half of the eye..blending it in to meet “Jest”.  It should look something like this:

Step 3:

Using your bullet brush, apply “Bronze” into the crease and outer “V”.  It should look something like this:

Step 4:

Using a stiff brush, apply your highlight color to the brow bone and inner corner. Using your fluffy brush, blend, blend, blend all of your colors together.  Apply your false lashes and a coat of mascara. Apply gel liner over the edge of the false lashes to cover up any excess glue.  Apply gel liner to the waterline and smudge with your bullet brush.  Apply “Bronze” to your lower lashline.  Your final product should look something like this:

I applied MAC’s “Lovelorn” to my lips as a final touch.  I love this color but I do find that it looks more purple on those with olive complexions.  –Just so ya know   “Jest” is a newer color that I have been using a lot and it is verrrrry similar to “Naked Lunch”. –which I also love.  I hope you guys enjoyed this look for summer!! Thanks for the great application shot Nathan Abplanalp!!  I looooved how this section was done because it was so different than the other “Get Her Look” sections as it was more of a step by step tutorial and total breakdown.  This way, the readers can actually re-create the look!!  Thank you so much Nathan Abplanalp for capturing such great photos of everyone’s final “Glam” look!!!  A big thank you to Swooz Salon for fabulous hair and New York Bride and Groom for the fabulous space we worked in and the gorgeous dresses the girls wore!!

The second part of the magazine I was honored to be featured in was a two page spread from a styled shoot shot by the girl who puts the Fab in Fabulous— Crystal Stokes Photography.  There were sooooo many talented vendors that worked long and hard on this shoot and it was so wonderful to see it not only come to life through Crystal’s photos but to be able to see it in print as well!!!

So much to be thankful for–but I am especially thankful for the wonderful photographers and vendors that I get to work with everyday…they are all so talented, creative and fabulous to work with!!!

It is called “When Monkeys Fly”.  Gah-even the name is adorable….  So this is what it looks like in action against a red backdrop (this was my little ode to those little red shoes…) Please excuse the “bloodstained” hands from the Zombie tutorial:

I love it…love, love, love it. I have used it over 3 different colors so far (yes I change my nails a lot) and have loved how it looks over each and every one of them. Most of the big, gold glitter flecks are like uneven hexagons..and there are little flecks of silvery glitter mixed in.  It is most definitely a “chunky” glitter as it is not entirely smooth and doesn’t lay all the way flat.  I love glitter like this but I know some people can’t stand it when they can feel it on top.  Bottom line:  I am going to try to avoid going back to the store as long as possible because I know I am going love the rest of the collection just as much!!!

When my costume arrived, I found that it contained a copy of Zombie Ohio–a book by Scott Kenemore.  This book has some awesome reviews all over the internet.  While I haven’t gotten the chance to read it yet–I will be..and I think the hubby will like this one too.  Seriously, when was the last time you got a complimentary book with your Halloween costume?-Sweet deal.

Ok-let’s get started with our eye look!!!!

Part 1: Dorothy Eye Look

 Products Used:

MAC Eyeshadows (on bottom) in “Woodwinked” and “Cranberry” and “Carbon” (not pictured), Bare Escentuals Eyeshadow in “Cervesa”

PREP:

I started with a bit of foundation on (only because I had been wearing makeup earlier in the day) but no makeup on my eyes!  Conceal around the top, bottom and all around the eyes.  Set with powder.  Apply your eyeshadow primer.  As usual, I used a MAC Paint Pot.

Step 1:

Using your stiff fluffy, apply ” Woodwinked” along the whole lid of the eye and up–stopping right before hitting the brow bone.  Go over the same area with “Cervesa” just to add a bit more gold.–we need that “yellow brick road” look!!  It should look something like this:

Step 2:

Using your bullet brush, apply “Carbon” or whatever black shadow you have into the crease and outer “V” of the eye.  It should look something like this:

Step 3:

Using your stiff fluffy, apply “Cranberry” to the middle of your eye lid.  Using your fluffy, blend your black into your gold and your cranberry into your black and gold.  Apply fake eyelashes.  Go over any excess glue with gel liner.  Line your waterline and use your bullet brush to smudge any excess liner into the lashline.  Using your bullet brush, apply “Cranberry” to the outer, lower lashline and “Cervesa” to the inner, lower lashline.  –you will see the final product after we go into the zombie part of our tutorial!!!

Part 2: Zombie Look

 Products Used:

Martha Stewart Craft Glitter (the best glitter!!!), Mehron Squirt Blood, Mehron Liquid Latex, assorted grease paints. gray and red eyeshadow (not pictured)

Step 1:

Begin to shade your face–this is just going to be some preliminary shading.  Using a fluffy brush, apply gray shadow underneath the eye, around the nose, around the forehead and in the hollows of your cheeks…anywhere you would look more gaunt and tired.  Apply your latex.  I applied mine with a little brush that came attached but you can do it with your fingers!  What you are going to do is apply some uneven patches in different areas in your face…wherever you want to have a wound.  Now, the amount of layers depends on the amount of extra “skin” you want to have that looks peeled away.  The greater the amount of layers, the deeper your “wound” looks…because the more “skin” creates more depth.  I placed one near my chin, on my cheek and on my forehead like this:

Step 2:

Break open your latex.  Using a pair of tweezers, “pick” up the latex in different areas of your “wound” and peel it back to create your wound hole. Using your fluffy brush, apply some red shadow underneath your eyes–I call this part “becoming infected”  –it makes it look like you have some sort of sickness.  It should look something like this:

Step 3:

Give the wound depth.  Mix some black into some red greasepaint to create a darker red.  Using a brush, apply this color to the inside of your wounds.  It should look something like this:

Step 3:

Freshen up your wounds.  Apply your blood to the wounds…drip it inside of them and let it fall down. Spackle your face with dirt and blood–I do this by mixing a bit of brown shadow and water, dipping a toothbrush in it and “flicking” the toothbrush at my face so I get sprayed.  Do the same thing with the gel blood and it looks like blood splatter—-you are still a zombie-you have to look like you have been through some stuff   It should look something like this:

Step 4:

Apply some black greasepaint to different areas inside of your wound–it will create more depth.  Darken the shading, splattering or blood as much as you like!  If you want to go full on zombie-with deeper wounds and more gore, please visit this tutorial. Now, as a nod to those famous ruby red shoes we are going to get some ruby red lips.   Apply some red lipstick–or dark pink–or whatever you have that is on the thicker side and a bit sticky.  You can apply glitter a few ways–Personally, I stick  it on my finger and then stick it on my lips…but you can also pick little blobs up with a lip brush and apply that way for more accuracy.  Your final product should look something like this:

Did you notice my nails?!?!  There will be a follow up post on them this week but you should know that they are from the new “Oz the Great and Powerful” collection from OPI….so I just had to feature them in this post to add to the fun and because it made our zombie look even more glam!!  Yellow brick road on your nails!!!

 Of course, who is Dorothy without her Toto by her side?!?!  My Toto looks a little depressed in these photos…don’t let her looks fool you-she is a firecracker.  And although she looks like I have abused her by putting her in this basket (oh the horror!!!) do not let her dupe you– she is well cared for and treated like a baby and spoiled rotten as I carry her around with me everywhere.

If you don’t happen to own your very own Toto like I do, you can purchase one here  to go with your costume that won’t have such an attitude and eyes filled with sadness and utter despair from having to be in a basket…because it will be stuffed.

I sooooo hope y’all enjoyed this fun tutorial!!!  It was great to come back and work on something fun and a little wild and the best part is–I know what I will be next Halloween!!  It was such a great, smooth experience working with halloweencostumes.com and I hope you think their zombie costumes are as awesome as I do.  Don’t forget to check back later this week for my nail post and new tutorials and blogs!!!

Can you see the difference?  Everything is just soooo much more defined. If filling them in truly scares you-start with a lighter color and fill in just a bit.  I guarantee in a few short weeks you will be darkening them and filling them in more because of the definition it gives your face!!
